Long-Distance Relationships: How To Make Them Work
There are ways to make your long distance relationship work

Long distance relationships can be hard - but it is also extremely gratifying to know that even through the distance, there is someone willing to put in that effort into their relationship with you. It might be hard to part ways with your partner every time you meet, but there are ways in which you can make even the distance less painful and more exciting. Here are a few ways in which you can make your long distance relationship last.

1. Don't over-communicate

Sounds like quite a counter intuitive suggestion, does it not? Well, here's the thing. While communicating with your partner in any relationship, more so in a long distance relationship is very important, becoming overly possessive or insecure and letting that drive you to constantly keep calling or texting will only end up creating negativity in the relationship. It's important to keep in touch and stay updated on each other's lives - and yes, calling them everytime you miss them is great too. But don't make it a habit of constantly calling for the wrong reasons or purely out of insecurity.

2. Build a life of your own

So your partner and you don't live in the same city. While the idea of being apart and not being able to constantly meet him/her might upset you, remember to make the most of this opportunity. Let us explain. If your partner were around, a large chunk of your time would probably go in being them. Now that you and your partner live in different cities, it gives you the time to actually explore new opportunities and spend time with your friends and family - basically to do a lot of things that you might have previously ignored. So don't sit around and pine for your partner. Instead, get out, make new friends or hang out with old ones. Pick up a hobby, take some classes. Whatever makes you happy. Just as long as that doesn't include sitting in your room and sulking.

3. Keep making plans together

It's important to constantly have something to look forward to - together. So every time you meet, make a plan for the next time you can see each other. No matter how much of a gap there might be between your next visit, having a definite date set will cause less anxiety and stress and leave the two of you feeling excited.
