Sex is something to be enjoyed , cherished even. Which is why when you find out that you have contracted a sexually transmitted infection or worse a sexually transmitted disease, well to put it subtly, it is a bummer. Quite a bummer. Which is why we are constantly told to be very careful with our sexual partners, by our very concerned best friends.
But hey, no one comes with a signboard anyway, right? Especially when we are a part of such a prevalent hookup culture, it becomes essential to take precautions and be aware of what you are getting into. Many STIs are treatable and can be controlled if discovered within a good window.
Here are three very common STIs that you must know and be wary of.
Pubic lice (crabs)
If you find yourself itching your crotch a lot and with tiny red spots in your groin area, you my dearie might have pubic lice, tiny blood sucking parasites that affect the genitals and spread with bodily contact. Lice are visible to naked eye and these little pests procreate of lay eggs on coarse body hair. Over-the-counter creams can be bought to treat pubic lice.
Syphilis
This one can get dangerous if not treated in its early stages. If left untreated, syph can lead to neurological disorders, and death. Marked by sores that can occur in vagina, anus, rectum , and mouth. Treatment with penicillin usually cures it. But it is essential that the infection is caught early.
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
Affecting women mostly, UTI is caused when bacteria is introduced into a woman's urinary tract during sexual intercourse. Painful urination, lower back pain, and lower abdominal cramping are symptoms that announce a UTI. There are ways to prevent UTI; like, peeing before and after sexual intercourse, cleaning the genital area, etc. But in a UTI's case, a doctor's consultation is essential if contracted.
