Rajasthan is known for many things: patchwork jackets and blankets, delectable pyaaz kachori and laal maas, and beautiful heritage architecture. Of the many buildings that the state boasts of, the forts in Rajasthan are a major attraction for people from all over the world. Many of these forts are well-maintained and manage to reflect their erstwhile glory and beauty. Out of these, here are three forts that you absolutely must see in Rajasthan.
Amer Fort, Jaipur
High atop a hill and visible from many places in Jaipur, Amer Fort is huge. It will easily take you all morning and afternoon to explore. From the various beautiful entrances to mirrored ceilings and beautiful views of the city below, Amer Fort disappoints in no way. Another thing that must not be missed during a trip to Jaipur is the light and sound show at Amer Fort. We would recommend the Hindi show as it is narrated by Amitabh Bachchan.
Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur
From beautiful paintings depicting scenes from Hindu mythology to gorgeous rooms decorated with mirrors and bright colours, Mehrangarh Fort will leave you quite bedazzled if you are into art, history, and architecture. Take your time exploring this one, and afterwards you can help yourself to a lunch at the cafe inside the fort. Do check out the Chamunda Temple inside the fort; this is where you will get the iconic view of all the blue buildings of Jodhpur, which is also known as the Blue City.
Chittor Fort, Chittorgarh
One of the biggest forts in Rajasthan, this fort was once the capital of Mewar. One of the many possible ways to see the fort is to make a quick getaway from Udaipur. While many people know of the various stories of siege and capture of the fort, people who have visited the fort will agree that the structure still maintains some of its former glory. The Padmini Palace and the Meera Temple inside the fort are not to be missed.
