Is Bangladesh ISI's New Hub, Catchment Area For Recruits?

With closer ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, the Pakistani Spy Agency ISI is looking at gaining a firm footing in the country. As the investigation into YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra's alleged spying for Pakistan proceeds, her apparent links with Bangladesh have emerged, thereby bringing her under greater suspicion and scrutiny by the agencies. Recently Bangladesh has also been in the news for terrorists closely mingling with members of the interim government. Whether it's the appointment of Mohammad Azaz as the administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation, despite being a member the banned terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir (banned in Bangladesh since October 2009 for posing a threat to national security) or the earlier instance of photographs of Harun Izhar, a hardcore jihadist and decades-old Harkat-ul-Jihad-al Islami Bangladesh (HuJI-B) operative, meeting Law Adviser Nazrul in the law ministry's offices, emerging. Izhar has known links to Lashkar-e-Taiba, which has carried out several attacks on India, including the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai. Earlier this year a high-level delegation comprising four senior members of the Pakistan Army and intelligence services visited Bangladesh under strict confidentiality.
