Explained: What Is DNA Sampling And How It Helps Identify Bodies

More than 48 hours have passed since the horrific crash of Air India's London-bound flight in Ahmedabad's Meghaninagar area, which claimed 265 lives - including 241 passengers and 12 crew members. Yet, families of the victims continue to wait for the mortal remains of their loved ones. The process of identifying victims through DNA matching is currently underway. The bodies will be handed over to their families once identification is complete. DNA sampling involves collecting and analysing a person's DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) to identify them or study specific genetic traits. Experts say samples are typically taken from bones, teeth, or hair to help identify victims.
