Assam News | Centre Approves High Speed Corridor Linking Southern Assam To Meghalaya's Shillong

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the development, maintenance, and management of a 4-lane Greenfield access-controlled National Highway No. 06. This 166.80 km high-speed corridor will stretch from Mawlyngkhung (near Shillong) in Meghalaya to Panchgram (near Silchar) in Assam, under the Hybrid Annuity Mode, with a total capital outlay of ₹22,864 crore. Of the total project length, 144.80 km falls within Meghalaya and 22.00 km in Assam. The Greenfield corridor is set to significantly enhance traffic flow between Guwahati and Silchar, reducing both travel time and distance. It will also improve connectivity to the states of Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and the Barak Valley region of Assam, thereby boosting national logistics efficiency
