An Indian Railways passenger shared a delightful experience during his recent journey. As shared in a post going viral on Reddit, the passenger (@hronak) wrote that he had booked a ticket in 2AC (second-class) for his train going from Chennai to Bilaspur (12852). The ticket was confirmed and before boarding, he got the good news that he had been upgraded to the first class without any additional charges. In the comments section, he added that he got his new seat in a cabin.

The Redditor shared a screenshot of the SMS that he received from the Indian Railways. The text read, "Congratulations! Your ticket has been upgraded. Enjoy travel in higher class without extra payment."

Further, he wrote, "For the first time in my life, I got upgraded to first class from 2AC. I always thought the 'Auto-Upgrade' was just a joke. TIL that Auto-Upgrade actually works for real."

Sharing an important detail to get such an opportunity, the passenger added in the comments, "You only have to check the 'Consider auto-upgrade' option while booking on the IRCTC website."

Several Redditors shared similar experiences with Indian Railways while others said they have never been upgraded.

"It's a once-in-a-lifetime event," a user wrote.

"I would have booked more than 500 tickets in my life, never been upgraded before," another said.

A Redditor shared, "My friend used to travel in Padmavat Express to Delhi, he booked 2nd class and said he got upgraded to 1st AC around 50 per cent of the time. I guess it depends on the train."

Another added, "I got upgraded 3 times from sleeper to 3rd AC (my total Bookings is just 10-12 something)."
