5 Elephants Stray Near Tamil Nadu Village, Locals Asked To Stay Indoors

Chennai: A herd of five elephants that strayed into a village in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district have turned into a nightmare for locals.

Forest officials are trying to chase the goliaths into the jungle near Soolakarai village. Around 20,000 people live in this area. The authorities have suggested villagers to stay indoors till the elephants are herded away.

The elephant migratory season in this forest normally ends in March but this year, officials say, it has extended till June.
 "The reserve forest is fragmented and in many pockets migratory elephants pass through villages. Even now they are camping only in forest area. As it's very close to the village we are not taking chances."

Usually migratory elephants cause huge losses to farmlands but this time no such incident has been reported as yet.
