Australian Couple Wakes Up to Find Giant Sinkhole in Backyard

Think you're having a bad time? Meet this Australian couple who woke up to find a giant sinkhole where their backyard had bee for over a quarter of a century.

The couple, Lynn and Ray McKay from a Queensland suburb, first discovered a small hole in the ground, which gradually got bigger and bigger. It was just a meter wide initially but currently measures around 8 meters, according to The Guardian.

The couple called the water company but soon realized this was a much bigger problem. It seems an abandoned old mine could be to blame for the situation.

"It's very scary," Mr McKay told 7 News Brisbane. "We just don't know what's going to happen," added Mrs McKay.

They have now had to move out of their home while authorities try to find the cause of the sinkhole.
