Deepika Padukone attended the Met Gala in New York earlier today (last night her local time). Now, not to be rude, but Deepika Padukone's look from the Met Gala has put us in a bit of a quandary. Why, you ask? Well, in order to be kind to Deepika Padukone and her team of stylists who assumably worked very hard to put her look together, let us say this - Deepika's look was grossly underwhelming. At the risk of sounding audacious let us also say this - we expected better after the criticism she received post her last red carpet appearance at the Time 100 Gala on the 24th of April, also in New York. Deepika's stylist Shaleena Nathani has tried, and visibly from the reaction Deepika's look is getting yet again, Shaleena Nathani seems to have failed. She missed the theme - Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination - completely. Or maybe, we're thinking, she just never got to read the memo? Either way, Deepika and her stylist played it too safe for the nth time; and just like all her other fans, we're disappointed.

But they say every cloud has a silver lining. Ironically, the only silver lining for Deepika Padukone as far as the Met Gala is concerned is the outfit she chose to wear for an after party. Deepika attended the Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination Costume Institute Gala after party at the Standard Hotel in New York. Now her outfit, once again, was nothing out of the ordinary. What was out of the ordinary was the fact that Deepika chose to repeat an outfit that she has worn before.
For the after party, Deepika wore a mustard velvet blazer with an inbuilt black belt cinching her waist. She paired it with black latex tights and black stilettos. Her hair and makeup remained mostly untouched other than her lip shade which she changed from red to nude. What surprised us was that the velvet blazer Deepika wore was the same as the one she wore not so long ago for another event. We saw Deepika step out for an event in January this year wearing the same blazer. We get that it's not a big deal for us regular people to be repeating our clothes frequently, but it's not everyday that you get to see a celebrity, especially one this exalted, repeating a look at a big ticket event where they're bound to be seen.

While some might criticize Deepika's decision to not go the extra mile and find something new and innovative to wear even for the after party, we give the girl big props for repeating the clothes that she likes.
Yes, we said clothes, because this wasn't Deepika's first time repeating her clothes like a boss. We've seen her do it before with just this much panache.
In January this year, Deepika wore a pink silk saree we had seen on her before to the HT Style Awards held in Mumbai. Prior to that, Deepika had worn the same saree to a friends wedding. Not just the saree, but Deepika also wore the same jewelry both times.

Just a day before Deepika had pulled this saree off for the second time, she had repeated an old Anamika Khanna anaarkali to the screening of Padmaavat. It was the exact same outfit Deepika had worn in 2013 for the trailer launch of Chennai Express, her film with Shah Rukh Khan.

Heavenly or not, Deepika's recycling of clothes definitely shows us that she is a mere mortal, just like the rest of us. And whether or not we love her Met Gala outfit, we definitely love that.
