Summer is close at hand and if you aren't careful, so can be the skin care problems. Summer brings out the worst in even the most tolerant skin types. So you can only imagine what it can do to sensitive skin. If not cared for properly, the result is sunburned skin that is sore and itchy. To make sure that doesn't happen to your sensitive skin this summer, add these six skin care tips to your routine today.
1. Keep An Eye Out
When picking beauty products, make sure it has the words 'non-comedogenic' on the label. This means that the ingredients in the product will not block pores. Blocked pores are troublesome, especially for sensitive skin, as it can lead to clogging, oiliness and acne. So keep an eye out to make sure your products absorb smoothly without blocking the skin on the way inside.
2. Go Natural
Skip the store-brought masks and exfoliators. Instead whip a mask by combining one tablespoon of mint leaves pulp, two teaspoons of cold milk and one tablespoon of honey. Apply to your skin and wash off after 30 minutes - it's wonderful to soothe and nourish sore, tired skin. To exfoliate, a tablespoon of oatmeal and milk can do the job gently, without being harsh on your skin.
3. Read The Ingredients
Make sure your beauty products contain no fragrance or ingredients like parabens and sulphates. These ingredients and fragrance has the potential to trigger the skin's sensitivity and can even cause it to break out so choose your products wisely.
4. Dry Right
Cleanse your skin twice a day and after you do so, pat yourself dry with a towel and allow it to air dry naturally for three - four minutes. Hastily applying products when your skin is still wet can do more harm than good and render the product ineffective. Plus, a clean, fresh face lessens your chances of breaking out into a sweat.
5. Shield Well
Of course you wouldn't skip sunscreen for your sensitive skin in the middle of summer. But make sure you're using the right one. A lightweight sunscreen with SPF 30 will do the job without weighing down too heavily on your sensitive skin. Additionally, a cap and scarf can help to cover up as well. It's all you need to get summer ready.
6. Cool Down
It's best to keep your body temperature as cool as possible when the heat gets to you. Do this by drinking two - three litres of water minimun daily and add hydrating produce like watermelon and cucumber to your diet. Opt for ice cold showers to prevent it from sapping your skin's moisture. Add moisturisers with glycerin and aloe vera to give your skin a tall drink of hydration.
Now get out there and enjoy the summer.
