No matter what your style sensibilities are, now, we've all had the live-in-my-denims phase. It's almost a rite of passage, before you arrive at a signature style. We've all owned that one pair of jeans that has travelled with us through rocky terrains, witnessed the heartbreaks and epiphanies, helped us look presentable no matter how long we went without washing it... Jeans are the one piece of clothing in a woman's cupboard she know she can fall back on, when all else fails. As much as we luuuurrve our denims, we have to admit, they can be quite fickle when it comes to the fit. They seem to have a mind of their own, twisting themselves in different ways every time we wash them or make a slight change in their care and upkeep. And since denims are our go-to fashion friends in times of dire need, their moodiness can be a bit frustrating.

Fortunately, there are ways in which you can get them to behave -- whether they've ballooned into a bigger size or have shrunk so much, you can barely squeeze into them anymore.

Use these 6 simple hacks to help to discipline your denims.

For when your jeans are too tight:

1. Sit In A Bathtub
No, we aren't trying to pull your leg, trust us on this. Wear your jeans and sit in a bathtub with warm (mind you, warm, not hot) water for 15 minutes. After that, roll in a towel to dry the excess water. Move around your house in your damp jeans. Yes, we're aware this sounds crazy but this really is the best way for your jeans to memorise your shape. After a while, let your jeans hang dry.

2. Wet Them And Stretch
Lay your jeans on the floor with the legs spread out wide. Spray your jeans with lukewarm water and start pulling. Pull them from each and every direction and keep spraying water as and when you feel the jeans are drying out. A few tugs should be good enough, after which, hang them out to dry.

3. Play With the Waistband
This technique will make you get all crafty, so are you with us? Start by ripping the side seams of your jeans upto 2-3 inches and insert a piece of cloth. Now you can add faux leather, some tulle or just basic denim. And stitch together. Voila, you have a new pair of jeans with interesting inserts.

For when your jeans are too stretched:

Hot Water Wash And Machine Dry.
Throw your jeans in a hot water wash and don't use any cloth softener. Once you wash them, transfer it into a dryer with the hottest setting possible and let be. This works best for denims that are made out of cotton, close to a 100%.

2. Boil Them
An alternative to a hot water wash is boiling. Fill a large pot with water and let it boil. Submerge your jeans in the pot and let it boil for about 30 mins. Machine dry them with the hottest temperature and see how amazingly your jeans fit you.

3. Elasticity All The Way
If the waistband of your jeans is a little lose, sew in a 6 inch elastic band in the middle of your waistband. Make sure you pull the elastic tightly before you let it through the sewing machine.

As with every meaningful (fashion) relationship, there is a time for holding on and there is a time to let go. When you know it's time to bid goodbye to an old denim friend and say hello to a new one, log on here for amazing new options.
