Gone are the days when low necklines were risqué. Today every red carpet sees them in plenty, most of which are tastefully worn. Even when they aren't confined to celebrities, low necklines are slowly trickling down to us regular folk. Sometimes, they are just a few centimeters low, enough to show a shadow of cleavage. Other times, they are an outright deep plunge, reserved for cocktail parties and fancy dinners. All of those occasions beg one question - what do we wear underneath? No one wants to see thick bands and large straps sticking out so picking your lingerie is of utmost importance when wearing a low neckline. Find out what your options are from the lingerie choices below.
1. Pick A Bra
If your neckline is just a tad lower than usual, you can go ahead and pick up a balconette bra. As opposed to the regular full cupped styles that are usually worn, balconette bras have a smaller cup on the lower section and have wider set straps. This lifts the breasts a bit more and allows the cleavage area to be free of any errant cups or straps.
2. Don't Shy From Silicon
Now if you neckline is lower than just a little, you'll need to keep the area clear and clutter-free. For that, stick-on silicone bras are just what you need. They are shaped like chicken fillets and glue gently onto the breasts so that your main bits are covered discreetly, albeit without much support. Bonus: they work great for backless tops too.
3. Tape It On
Now here's a tip from the queen of low necklines herself, Kim Kardashian. When wearing a plunging top, Kim tapes her breasts in place so that they have a slight amount of support and stay in place without the worry of a wardrobe malfunction. Although she does this with duct tape, we recommend a tape with a lighter adhesive like cello tape and a slow hand when removing it.
4. Get Past It
Ever heard of nipple pasties? They're the ultimate solution for absolutely any risqué looks, whether they are low necklines, sheer cutouts or open backs. They are discreet sticky circles of fabric, much like band-aids, to be stuck on one's nipples. While they don't offer any support, they work marvelously, no matter how deep the neckline and shop marks from showing through fabrics.
You won't need to worry about wearing that plunging top again.
