Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the family of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a pony ride operator who is being hailed as a hero for sacrificing his life while protecting tourists during the Pahalgam terror attack.

Reports indicate the 20-year-old tried to shield a tourist travelling on his horse and even attempted to disarm one of the terrorists by grabbing a rifle. The pony ride operator, who ferried visitors through the mountainous terrain of Pahalgam, was the only local who died in the dastardly attack.

A cheque of Rs 5 lakh was given to the Shah family by workers of the Shiv Sena, headed by Mr Shinde, and officials from a border organization who travelled to Pahalgam for the purpose on Friday, said the release.

Why Were There No Soldiers At Pahalgam, Asks Opposition. Centre Answers
The Opposition questions at the Centre during the all-party meeting yesterday evening over the Pahalgam terror attack. The meeting, convened by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah, came a day after the government announced a suite of retaliatory measures against Pakistan.

It is then that the route is officially opened and security forces are deployed to ensure the safety of pilgrims who rest at Baisaran en route to the Amarnath shrine.
