Akshay Kumar's Toilet: Ek Prem Katha Trailer Shatters Record After Record, Makers 'Excited'

New Delhi: The trailer of Akshay Kumar's latest film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha released last Sunday (June 11). Since then, the trailer has shattered major records on all social media platforms. Just after two days of its release, it was the 'highest viewed Bollywood trailer' on Facebook. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha trailer clocked more than 11 million views on Facebook. On YouTube, the trailer has got over 15 million views and counting. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, starring Bhumi Pednekar opposite Akshay, deals with issues of sanitation and prevalence of open defecation in India, especially in rural areas. The makers of the film are overwhelmed with the response the trailer has so far received and said that they 'can't wait to present the film to the audiences,' reports news agency IANS.

"Everywhere we are going and whoever we are speaking to now, is only raving about the trailer of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. The response has been extremely humbling for us. As a company, our main aim is to keep making cinema that is relevant and touches hearts of the people. This film has all those qualities and we are very excited to present this film to the audiences," Shital Bhatia, co-producer of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha said in a statement, reports IANS. Neeraj Pandey, who has directed Akshay in films like Special 26 and Baby is also one of the co-producers of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.

Akshay, 49, stars as Keshav, a simple person while Bhumi, 27, plays Jaya, a progressive thinker. Keshav falls in love with Jaya and the duo get married. Later, Jaya is introduced to the 'lota party' (a group of women who defecate in the open), she retaliates and eventually leaves her husband's home. Keshav too supports his wife's cause and tries to change the mindset of his father and other people of his village. Both of them together take up the challenge of building toilets.

Anupam Kher plays a pivotal role in the film. Actors Divyendu Sharma, Sudhir Pandey and Shubha Khote star as the supporting cast.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who rarely tweets about a film, also praised Akshay's film and tweeted this.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, directed by Shree Narayan Singh, releases on August 11.
