Viral: Deepika Padukone's Ghoomar Song Gets 10 Million Cheers

New Delhi: You must have watched Deepika Padukone's Ghoomar song by now. It is the first song from the Padmavati playlist to be released - it was shared yesterday. The Ghoomar song has lived up to the hype and garnered over 10 million views (and counting) within 24 hours. The song, which has been hailed on Twitter for portraying an essential part of the Rajput culture, is also at the second spot on YouTube's list of trends. Deepika and Shahid Kapoor - the two stars who feature in the song - are delighted with the whole lot of love and shared their excitement in tweets. Deepika headlines the Padmavati cast in the titular role while Shahid has been cast as Rani Padmini's husband Rawal Ratan Singh.

Padmavati also stars Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji, who doesn't have any scenes with Deepika's Rani Padmini in the movie.

"Overjoyed and Grateful! Thank you all so much for the love," wrote Deepika while Shahid added: "Spellbound by the abundant love Ghoomar has been receiving. Thank you so much everyone."

A lot of effort has been invested in fine-tuning the Ghoomar song. Deepika trained under Jyoti D Tommaar, whose expertise is the Ghoomar dance genre, and was choreographed by Kruti Mahesh. IANS reports that Deepika took 12 days to rehearse the choreography while the song was shot over four days.

Perfectionist director Sanjay Leela Bhansali shared the idea behind so much hard work and told IANS: "We wanted the Jhoomar to retain its purity since this was being performed by Rani Padmavati. Every step and every move in the dance form celebrates the royal grace of royalty. This is our dance tribute to the brave Rajput women of Rajasthan."
