Smriti Irani Watched, Loved And Tweeted About Bareilly Ki Barfi

New Delhi: Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani has tweeted a shout out for the film Bareilly Ki Barfi, which opened two Fridays ago. Ms Irani congratulated director Ashwini Iyer Tiwari in her tweet on Tuesday and singled out actor Rajkummar Rao for praise. "Congrats Ashwini, brilliant work by entire team especially Rajkummar Rao and Bitti's parents. Dialogues were a class apart," Smriti Irani tweeted. 'Bitti's parents' were played by actors Pankaj Tripathi and Seema Bhargava. Kriti Sanon stars as Bitti, who runs away from home in search of a writer named Pritam Vidrohi, played by Rajkummar. Ayushmann Khurrana co-stars as the young man who helps Bitti find Pritam, while concealing the fact that he is in fact the actual author of the book that impressed Bitti.

Smriti Irani isn't the only one to be floored by Bareilly Ki Barfi and Rajkummar Rao's performance. The actor revealed yesterday that he received a handwritten note from no less a person than Amitabh Bachchan - "you've made my day," he wrote in a tweet:

Bareilly Ki Barfi opened to good reviews two weeks ago. Saibal Chatterjee, reviewing for NDTV.com, gave the film three stars. "The burden of making Bareilly Ki Barfi work rests upon Kriti Sanon and she doesn't put a foot wrong," he wrote.

Bareilly Ki Barfi has also performed relatively well at the box office. At last count, it had made Rs 24.67 crore, as reported by trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
