Padmavati Star Shahid Kapoor Says Film 'Will Eventually Come Out In Full Force'

New Delhi: Actor Shahid Kapoor, one of the three principal leads of embattled film Padmavati, said that there is nothing to object to in the movie and that it would 'eventually come out in full force,' news agency ANI reported. Padmavati has been indefinitely postponed after months of protests against the film was capped this week by the Censor Board rejecting its application to be certified as 'incomplete.' Padmavati, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, recreates the legend of Rajput queen Rani Padmini who is believed to have committed jauhar to escape the invading Alauddin Khilji. Opposition to the film is based on concerns that it 'distorts' history by depicting a romance between Padmini and Khilji.

Shahid Kapoor, who plays Padmini's husband Rawal Ratan Singh, told ANI, "I don't think there is anything in the film that is unacceptable or not in good taste. Eventually, Padmavati will come out in full force." The roles of Padmini and Khilji are played by Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.

Shahid also said, "Our Constitution says that you are innocent until proven guilty. Same should be extended to Padmavati, it should not be considered guilty even before people judge it." He made a similar please some weeks ago, asking that judgement should be reserved until after watching the film.

The chorus of protests against Padmavati include fringe Rajput groups like Karni Sena who attacked the sets of the film and the director in Jaipur last January; various members of assorted royal families in Rajasthan who are offended by the song Ghoomar - Rajput queens never danced before an audience, they say; chief ministers of Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, some of whom have said the film will not be screened in their states even if allowed to release in others; and a handful of BJP leaders whose absurd demands range from Sanjay Leela Bhansali being prosecuted for treason to Deepika Padukone and Mr Bhansali being beheaded. Security for the director and actress has been stepped up.

Padmavati was to release on December 1 - a revised date has not been announced yet.
