Jab Harry Met Sejal Box Office Collection Day 3: Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma's Film Is A 'Disappointment'

New Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma's Jab Harry Met Sejal failed the weekend litmus test at the box office and "emerged a disappointment," says trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Jab Harry Met Sejal made Rs 15 crore on the opening day and performed consistently over the weekend despite being the single big release for the weekend. Over the weekend, the Imtiaz Ali-directed film collected a little over Rs 30 crore bringing the total to Rs 45.75 crore. "Barring few metros, the business ranged from ordinary to dull. Jab Harry Met Sejal is Shah Rukh khan's second release of the year. In January, Shah Rukh's Raees hit the screens clashing with Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil and still performed better that Jab Harry Met Sejal. On the opening day Raees pocketed Rs 20.4 crore while its opening (five-day) weekend collection figure was Rs 93.24.

Jab Harry Met Sejal released with Bollywood film Gurgaon (which also received better reviews) and Hollywood film The Dark Tower. In his review for NDTV, film critic Saibal Chatterjee wrote Jab Harry Met Sejal is "cinema's equivalent of a shiny bauble that glitters wholly in vain." However, the damp reviews did not upset Imtiaz Ali, who told news agency IANS that he never 'intended to make an intellectual masterpiece.'

Of the films' poor critical appraisal, Shah Rukh, 51, told IANS: "I have been in the business long enough to try a formula film and to try a film with no formula. Succeeded and failed at both. So, I understood that I can't even try to recreate the magic."

"Some critics have talked about the magic being missing. I think he (Imtiaz Ali) would not like to recreate that magic that he has done in the past (with films like Jab We Met, Rockstar and highway). This one has a new magic. It's a new trick," Shah Rukh added.
