Saif Ali Khan hasn't been particularly favoured by the box office for the last few years except his 2013 film Race 2, which received a great response and became a hit. His films like Happy Ending, Humshakals and Bullett Raja did not fare quite well at the big screen including his last film Rangoon, which also featured Kangana Ranaut and Shahid Kapoor. The Vishal Bhardwaj-directed film was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 80 crore, which was never fully recovered.
Despite the box office debacles, Saif Ali Khan is excited about the roles coming his way, which reveal a different story. "I still have three films and a Netflix series in my kitty. I have been the first choice for all these projects. So, I am sure I have done something right," mid-day quoted Saif Ali Khan as saying.
Addressing himself as a "late bloomer," Saif says he has recently only begun understanding which script would develop into a notable outing, reports mid-day.
Saif is currently also working on films like Akshat Verma's Kaalakaandi and Nikkhil Advani's Bazaar. Of these films and the directors, Saif told mid-day: "I am doing better work, working with better directors than I have."
Chef is directed by Raja Krishna Menon and marks Saif's second film this year.
The film is scheduled to release on October 6.
