13 Years Of Swades: Aamir Khan Played An Important 'Part' In Shah Rukh Khan's Movie

New Delhi: No, Aamir Khan did not star in Swades, but did you know it was the Dangal actor who was on the sets of Shah Rukh Khan's movie on Day 1 and it was he who snapped the clapboard for Swades? The critically acclaimed movie, which scored two National Awards, clocked 13 years on Sunday, prompting director Ashutosh Gowariker to share two unreleased photographs from the 'Muhurat Day.' Surprisingly, Aamir Khan features in the photos - in one of them he poses with the director and Shah Rukh, and in the other, he can be seen snapping the clapperboard while the director and his wife Sunita Gowariker stand by.

Aamir Khan has a long-drawn history with Ashutosh Gowariker. Swades released three years after (2004) Aamir Khan's Lagaan (2001), also directed by Mr Gowariker. Lagaan made it to the final five of the Best Foreign Language Film category for Oscar nominations in 2001. Aamir and Mr Gowariker first worked together in 1995's Baazi, in which Aamir played a cop, and the movie is said to be the reason the 52-year-old actor was considered to play the lead in 1999's Sarfarosh.

Aamir and Shah Rukh have never really shared screen space together, except for a brief while in 1993's Pehla Nasha - Ashutosh Gowariker's first film as a director. The Khan duo have played cameos in Luck By Chance but did not appear together on screen.

13 years after Swades, Shah Rukh Khan is busy with a yet-untitled Anand L Rai movie, also starring Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. Aamir Khan is currently busy shooting for the much talked about Thugs Of Hindostan, co-starring Amitabh Bachchan, Fatima Sana Shaikh and also Katrina.
