Royal Enfield Scram 440 Sales On Hold; Faulty Component Responsible For Engine Problem
The sales and bookings for the RE Scram 440 could resume next month

It's been a little over five months since the Royal Enfield Scram 440 was launched in India, with prices starting at Rs. 2.08 lakh (ex-showroom). But soon after, the buzz around the new scrambler motorcycle died down. And now, it is back but not in the way the company intended. Reports suggest that the sales and bookings of Scram 440 have been temporarily stopped because of a faulty component in the engine called the 'Woodruff key', which is fitted within the magnetic coil.

Because of the faulty component, select models of the Scram 440 are having problems, with the motorcycle not restarting after its been running for a while. The engine doesn't stall while it is being run but once it comes to the stop and the ignition is switched off, the 440 cc single-cylinder engine may not start again.

Now, the company has already started despatching the new component, to be fitted on customers' motorcycles, but Royal Enfield has temporarily paused sales and has stopped taking bookings for the Scram 440 as well. Reports suggest that only 2 per cent of the Scram 440 models are plagued with the issue but Royal Enfield is not taking any chances, with customer safety and riding experience. The company hasn't confirmed when it will resume bookings and deliveries yet but it is likely to be next month onwards.
