US President Donald Trump has met Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Saudi Arabia. This comes a day after Washington lifted sanctions on Syria, with Trump saying the move aims to "give them a chance at greatness." The meeting, described as brief, is the first between U.S. and Syrian leaders since 2000. Until recently, Syria's new president has gone from being a jihadist, with the US offering a $10m reward for his arrest, to shaking hands with President Trump. After ousting Assad and pledging to fight terror, his government is now seen as Syria's path to recovery.
