Two years to the day Manipur exploded, thousands of people who fled from their burning homes are still in living camps, and the Meitei community and the Kuki tribes still have not agreed to live together in peace. The only changes so far have been the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the imposition of President’s rule in the state bordering Myanmar. While violence has subsided, the two communities remain deeply divided, with each not going to the other’s areas. The Kuki tribes want a separate administration carved out of Manipur, while the Meiteis want Manipur’s territorial integrity to remain intact i.e. the state cannot be divided, say the Meiteis. NDTV’s Divyam Sharma and Debanish Achom discuss the Manipur situation.
