India US Trade Deal | India-US May Finalise Interim Trade Deal By June 25

In today's episode of India Global, the spotlight is now on securing an interim trade arrangement between India and the United States before finalizing the first phase of their bilateral trade agreement. Sources say both sides are aiming to reach a temporary deal by June 25 ahead of the July 9 deadline, when the U.S. may reinstate a 26% reciprocal tariff on Indian goods. That tariff, imposed on April 2, is currently suspended. Until then, Indian exports continue to face a standard 10% U.S. baseline tariff. The urgency reflects both countries' intent to avoid renewed trade friction and keep up momentum under the India-U.S. Compact Framework, which focuses on advanced technology and economic cooperation. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri's meetings in Washington this week are expected to accelerate progress, with both sides signaling that talks are "on track." A final and official decision on the interim agreement could be announced in the coming weeks. Misri met with U.S. Under Secretary Jeffrey Kessler to explore new opportunities under the India-U.S. Compact Initiative, which was launched during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the U.S. earlier this year. Misri's meetings with senior U.S. officials are seen as a follow-up to that momentum, ensuring both sides move quickly on shared priorities. NDTV's Mohammed Ghazali reports.
