Bangladesh Attempts To Erase Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's Legacy

In today's episode of India Global, There's been yet another assault on democratic Bangladesh's history and national identity. In the latest, Dhaka's interim government under Muhammad Yunus has dropped the title "Father of the Nation" from a key law honoring the country's freedom fighters. This effectively erases Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from the narrative of liberation. It was the last straw left in Mujibur Rahman's legacy. The Yunus regime, installed amid chaos and backed by unelected elites, is playing with fire, fueling rising Islamist sentiment and rewriting the very soul of Bangladesh's founding. What initially started as anti-quota protests mutated into a violent uprising that chased Sheikh Hasina from power. And now, with Mujib's name disappearing from currency and law, radical forces are emboldened, while 1971 freedom fighters are being reclassified, demoted, or dismissed. Yunus says Mujib's honor remains intact, but the facts on the ground say otherwise.
