Air India Plane Crash | Explained: Ahmedabad Plane Crash: What Happens After Pilot Calls 'Mayday'?

On Thursday afternoon, a London-bound Air India plane carrying 242 passengers and crew members crashed moments after taking off from the Ahmedabad International airport. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner plunged several metres suddenly in the premises of a Medical College sending up a thick plume of black smoke and triggering an immediate emergency response. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, seconds before crashing, the pilot issued a Mayday distress call, denoting full emergency. However, thereafter no response was given by the aircraft to the calls made by Air Traffic Control. The term 'Mayday' comes from French and translates to mean 'help me'.
