More than two months after tourists in Jammu and Kashmir were asked to leave the state, as the centre prepared to revoke its special status and divide it into two union territories, the administration said it will lift the restrictions on Thursday.

Jammu and Kashmir government today relaxed the requirements for obtaining a Protected Area Permit (PAP) - required by foreigners to visit Leh - with the aim of encouraging tourism in the state. Under the new regime, foreigners tourists will be allowed to visit areas of Leh that were till now closed to them.
