The Bengaluru Police have filed a case on their own (suo moto) against RCB, the state cricket body, and DNA Entertainment over the stampede on Wednesday. At least 11 people died and 50 were injured in a stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday as a huge crowd of fans gathered to greet the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after winning the IPL.

Visuals showed several fans fainted outside the stadium, and ambulances were present at the spot, and cops were taking the injured away.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted to the stampedes in Bengaluru and said the "mishap is absolutely heartrending."

On Tuesday, RCB beat Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final, winning their first trophy in the league's 18-year history. Grand celebrations and a victory parade were planned. The team landed in Bengaluru in the afternoon and was greeted by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. A massive police deployment was observed on the route.

Will Cooperate With Government, Judicial Authorities: RCB On FIR Over Bengaluru Stampede

Under-fire IPL champion Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Thursday said it will co-operate with all the legal proceedings after an FIR was registered against it in connection with the stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium in which 11 people were killed.

The FIR has been lodged against RCB, Karnataka State Cricket Association, and event management firm DNA Entertainment Networks.

"We can't comment on legal proceedings at the moment. But we will co-operate with all the government and judicial authorities," informed a franchise source.

The tragedy occurred when nearly two and half lakh people thronged the stadium to catch a glimpse of RCB cricketers after their maiden IPL trophy victory. The resultant chaos led to the death of 11 people, besides leaving several others injured on Wednesday.

According to the police, the case was registered at Cubbon Park police station under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by using dangerous weapons or means), 121 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 190 (liability of members of an unlawful assembly for offences committed in pursuit of a common object), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging their duty), and 125 (12) (acts endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Earlier, the RCB announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the 11 supporters, who lost their lives in the stampede.

"As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of Rs 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident," the team has said in a statement.

A magisterial inquiry is currently underway into the tragedy, and its report is expected within the next fortnight.

RCB has drawn widespread criticism for going ahead with the victory celebrations just a day after their triumph, denying the administration and police authorities enough time to arrange adequate security measures needed for an event of such magnitude.

"Inept, Incompetent": Rajeev Chandrasekhar Slams Karnataka Congress Over Bengaluru Stampede

Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Thursday slammed the Karnataka Congress government for the stampede during RCB's IPL victory celebrations in Bengaluru that claimed the lives of 11 people, calling the party "inept, incompetent, unaccountable, and corrupt".

Chandrasekhar said the Karnataka Congress party is full of corrupt leaders who make false promises and fail to manage public events in a city like Bengaluru, which is called the Silicon Valley of Asia.

Speaking to ANI, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said, "Everyone knows that if there is a state unit of the Congress party that is the most inept, incompetent, unaccountable, and corrupt, and only survived because of its appeasement politics, it is the Karnataka Congress... Karnataka Congress is a poster boy of everything that is wrong in Indian politics. It has the most corrupt politicians who are today deputy chief ministers, chief ministers and ministers in the government. They exploit the people, make fake promises, and are unable to hold a small event in a city like Bengaluru, which is called the Silicon Valley of Asia... Ordinary people's lives have no meaning for the Congress party, not just in Karnataka, but this is the politics of Rahul Gandhi..."

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) announced financial support of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the 11 people who lost their lives in the tragic stampede at the Bengaluru stadium.

Deeply moved by the turn of events, RCB released an official statement expressing profound grief and has pledged immediate financial assistance to the families of the deceased.

"The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident," the statement read.

Acknowledging the injuries sustained by other fans during the incident, the franchise has also set up a dedicated relief initiative named 'RCB Cares', aimed at extending medical and financial aid to those hurt.

"Our fans have always been the heartbeat of RCB. We remain united in grief," the franchise said.

The incident occurred on Wednesday during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL winning celebrations near the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium, when thousands of fans gathered to catch a glimpse of their favourite players.

CID To Probe Bengaluru Stampede: Government Tells High Court

The Karnataka government on Thursday informed the High Court that the investigation into the stampede in front of Chinnaswamy stadium here, which left 11 people dead, has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) within the CID will be formed to ensure a thorough and independent probe.

The government submitted a status report to the court, confirming that an FIR (Crime No. 123/2025) has been filed at the Cubbon Park Police Station under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita - including Sections 105, 125(1)(2), 132, 121/1, 190 read with 3(5).

The case has now been formally transferred to the CID, with directions to constitute the SIT for further action, it said.

The High Court, earlier in the day, directed the state government to file a status report on the stampede.

The court, after taking suo motu cognisance of the matter, issued notice to the state, and directed it to file a detailed status report by June 10.

Noting that a separate magisterial inquiry has also been initiated to ascertain the cause of the stampede and identify any administrative or organisational lapses, the report said the inquiry will be led by the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Bangalore City and must be completed within 15 days.

The status report pointed out that an overwhelming crowd of over 2.5 lakh people had gathered around the stadium.

It added that keeping in mind the victory of RCB, to ensure security and bandobast, the Bengaluru city police deployed a total of 1,380 personnel, including senior officers and constables. Additionally, 13 KSRP personnel (each comprising 25 personnel) were deployed to maintain law and order.

The worst congestion was reported at Gates 1, 6, 7, 17 and 21 of the stadium. Adequate medical facilities were provided to all the injured persons -50 of the injured were treated as outpatients and discharged, while six are still receiving care.

In addition to police deployment, the state had stationed three fire engines, two ambulances, two D-SWAT units, a water tanker, a command-and-control vehicle, and four extra KSRP units.

The court was also informed that the post-mortem process for all 11 deceased has been completed, and their bodies have been returned to their families.

It was also informed that the government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to each of the deceased's families, along with full medical coverage for the injured.

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has pledged an additional Rs 5 lakh in compensation per deceased, it said.

Karnataka To Formulate New SOP For Mega Events, Celebrations

Karnataka government will formulate a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for mega events, meetings and celebrations aimed at preventing any untoward incidents, state Home Minister G Parameshwara said on Thursday.

The initiative comes in the wake of a stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium here on Wednesday that claimed 11 lives.

Speaking to reporters, Parameshwara said that the government will take strict measures to identify the lapses that led to the stampede near the stadium, where a large number of people thronged to participate in the RCB team's IPL victory celebrations.

Eleven people have died and 56 have been injured in the incident. Among the injured, 46 have gone back home after treatment, while 10 are in hospital and their condition is not serious, according to doctors.

"Aimed at preventing such incidents, the government and the home department will formulate a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). We will give instructions that from now on any mega events, meetings and celebrations, should be held within the framework of the directions issued by the police department," Parameshwara said.

A new SOP will be formulated to ensure that such incidents never happen in the future, he said.

"Such deaths shouldn't happen. Innocents should not die. Looking at the dead bodies it pains anyone....many of them were youngsters in 20-25 years of age. They came happily to celebrate. They wouldn't have expected to lose their lives. We will take strict measures to identify the lapses," he added.

Stating that such an incident has never happened in the state's cricketing history, Parameshwara said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held a meeting yesterday and has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident under the leadership of Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner.

"If any lapses are found, strict action will be taken against whoever is responsible," he said, adding that he didn't want to go into details, because an inquiry has been ordered.

Responding to a question about the government not taking adequate measures and lapses on its part, the home minister said, "As you are aware, there were celebrations (for RCB victory) almost the entire Tuesday night on the streets of Bengaluru. Again in the morning (Wednesday) the atmosphere for this celebration (with the team landing in the city) was created...the entire community in a way was in a celebration frenzy." "No one expected about three lakh people to come against the stadium's capacity of 30 thousand. According to information from Bangalore Metro around 8.7 lakh people travelled till 11pm (on Wednesday). You imagine how much crowd had come," he said.

Parameshwara said he would be visiting the incident site near the stadium and will also hold discussions with the RCB and Karnataka State Cricket Association representatives.

On questions being asked as to who will take responsibility for deaths, the minister said on getting to know about the lapses, responsibilities can be fixed.

Expressing relief that no untoward incident took place at the RCB team felicitation event in front of Vidhana Soudha, he said, "I heard about some sticks being thrown at the media alleging they obstructed the view....within 2-3 hours as the felicitation event had to be organised, some lapses might have happened." To a question about allegations that the government neglected senior officials' suggestions against holding the event in haste, he said, "There are such claims. Let's see who said and when." Later, speaking to reporters after visiting the incident spot and the stadium, the home minister said the stampede had occurred at gate numbers -- 6,7,2,2A,16,17,18, and 21.

There is no information about deaths on the spot. Due to the stampede and suffocation, while being shifted to the hospital, some people have died, and some have died at the hospital, he said.

When people started gathering large numbers, police gathered forces from various divisions, including DCPs and ACPs, he added.

Parameshwara said, "We had estimated about 1 lakh people had gathered in front of Vidhana Soudha and at the stadium 35,000-40,000 people and outside an estimated 2.5 lakh people were there, but according to Metro 8.7 lakh people have travelled. In that if 90 per cent of them were cricket enthusiasts, an estimated more than 8 lakh people would have come, this in not exact figure." "There is no example of so many people gathering for a cricketing event in Bengaluru. Probably a history would have been created if everything was right. This would have been a record on its own, but unfortunately this stampede incident happened."

BJP Terms Bengaluru Stampede "Government-Manufactured", Demands Chief Minister's Resignation

The BJP on Thursday demanded the resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy D K Shivakumar, alleging that the "mutual fight and rift" between the two led to the state "government-manufactured stampede".

Eleven people died and 33 were injured in the stampede near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru as thousands of fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the RCB team after its first-ever IPL win.

BJP MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra alleged that the "mutual fight and rift" between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar led to the state "government-manufactured stampede".

He recalled last year's arrest of Telugu actor Allu Arjun in a stampede case in Telangana, where the Congress is in power, and asked if the party would follow the "same principle" in Karnataka and ensure the arrest of Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar.

He also slammed Rahul Gandhi and asked him to break his silence on the incident, and make the chief minister and the deputy chief minister step down.

"This is clearly the failure of the state government, and the state government will have to own up to it. The chief minister and the deputy chief minister will have to resign for the deaths of 11 innocent people and those who suffered injuries in the incident," Patra said.

The BJP leader said cricket is like a religion in the country, and victory marches have been organised in the past too, but only after ensuring proper arrangements -- usually three to five days after the event.

"Everybody knows that cricket fans will hit the streets to join celebrations... such events should be organised only after proper arrangements are in place," he said.

"We saw KKR's victory march two days after they won. CSK held victory march three days after winning," Patra said.

"But in Karnataka, just because DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah wanted a photo op, they forced this event to be organised within 12 hours (of the team's victory)," he claimed.

There was no coordination between the organisers and the police, he alleged.

"... Look at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's audacity, he is trying to normalise a stampede in which 11 innocent people died. He says such stampedes keep happening in other places.

"And, the worst part was that felicitations continued while the deaths were happening. A celebration was on... Shivakumar was smiling on the stage while people were dying under the stage. You were smiling while standing on dead bodies," Patra charged.

"Who authorised the event to continue despite deaths?" he asked, "Neither Kannadigas nor India will forgive the chief minister and the deputy chief minister." Taking on Gandhi, the former Congress chief and the current Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Patra said, "Where is Rahul Gandhi, who keeps on making fun of India, speaks against India every day, makes fun of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Army, and says it's his democratic right?" "Where is he hiding? Will Rahul Gandhi pose questions to D K Shivakumar and Siddharamaiah's tweets (posts on X) on this issue and summon them to Delhi? Will he ask them to resign?" the BJP leader said "We are waiting for his response also. We hope Rahul Gandhi, you will come out and speak and take action against your leader since you run the government in Karnataka," he added.

Citing media reports that police had not given permission for the event, Patra said there are many questions that the Karnataka government needs to answer.

IPL chairman Arun Dhumal has said the BCCI did not know about this event, he said.

"The event was organised even though the police did not give any permission for it. On whose instruction was the event held? Who is responsible for this victory march?" he asked Patra said Shivakumar himself revealed that the stadium could accommodate 35,000 people, but a crowd of 3 lakh had gathered for the event.

"If the capacity of the stadium was 35,000, why did you allow 3 lakh people to join the victory march? Why 25,000 extra tickets were sold?" the BJP leader asked, targeting the Karnataka government.

Another BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said Bengaluru city traffic police had clearly stated on X on Wednesday that there would be no victory parade and later deleted the post.

"At 1:08 pm, Bengaluru city traffic police clearly tweeted that there would be no victory parade. By 3:14 pm, RCB tweeted the parade is on at 5 pm. Shortly after -- the Police deleted their tweet," Bhandari wrote on X, with screenshots of their posts.

"Why the U-turn? Who ordered the deletion? Why was the public misled?" he asked, adding, "The chief minister and deputy chief minister are directly accountable." BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla termed the stampede "man-made state-sponsored tragedy" and demanded that the chief minister and deputy chief minister must be be held accountable for death of people in the incident.

"The celebration was turned into complete chaos, carnage and catastrophe...But, Karnataka government is giving clean chit to itself, patting its back and blaming the crowd. This shows the attitude of the Congress," he charged.

Bengaluru Stampede: Minister Assures Action Against Those Responsible For Lapses

Karnataka Minister MB Patil on Thursday accused BJP of playing politics over the stampede near the Chinnaswamy stadium and assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the lapses that led to the incident.

He dismissed allegations that the celebrations continued inside the stadium despite knowing that a tragedy was unfolding outside.

"I think what was happening outside was not known to the people inside (Chinnaswamy Stadium). No person who is sensitive and responsible will do that. Without knowing things have happened. When they came to know that a stampede has happened and situation is very serious outside, it was concluded in no time. So, the BJP should not stoop so low," he told reporters here.

Concerned and pained by the deaths due to stampede, he said that the focus of the government is to give best treatment to those injured and if needed they would be provided treatment in private hospitals also.

"Our focus is to give them the best treatment, if needed we will provide them treatment in the best private hospitals also and act as per humanity. Now, the BJP wants to do politics in this issue also and we can't help it. But at the same time, we should look into lapses. Whoever it is and however big the person might be, the lapses will be unearthed in 15 days...and strict action will be taken against them," Patil assured.

Feel Very Bad, Lives More Important Than Celebration: Kapil Dev On Bengaluru Stampede

The legendary Kapil Dev on Thursday expressed his anguish at the death of 11 fans during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations here, saying "lives are more important than celebration" and advised everyone to take proper precautions in future.

Nearly two and half lakh people thronged the areas near the M

Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday to catch a glimpse of their idols but the ensuing chaos caused the death of 11 people, besides leaving scores of others injured.

"I feel very bad about that. I think we have to learn from each other. Next time something like this (victory parade) happens, people should be more conscious. People do make a mistake," Kapil told PTI on the sidelines of a corporate event organised by the Arche Global Private Limited.

The 1983 World Cup-winning India captain urged the teams and other stakeholders to keep sanity while organising events of such magnitude.

"Mistake should not be to that scale where you are having fun and you lose lives. In the future, if any team wins, keep it calm. Lives are more important than celebration. Let's put it that way," he added.

Kapil hoped India would come out victorious in the upcoming five-match Test tour to England.

"They are a good side. Cricket is a team game and if they play as a team then they will get good results. Whether it is Shubman Gill or Jasprit Bumrah... it is not about individuals, play as a team. That's more important. Good luck to them, and hope they come back victorious," he said.

The former all-rounder said he is now more occupied with golf - as a player and an administrator.

"I think cricket can be played only up to a certain age, you know, certain sports like tennis, football, you can't play at the age of 50 or 60. But when I started playing golf, I felt that one can play, as long as you want. And that's wonderful, as a sportsman, if you keep on playing something.

"Golf has given me that kick, that I can compete with myself," said the 66-year-old, who is also the president of the Professional Golf Tour of India.

RCB Announces Rs 10 Lakh Each To Families Of Those Killed In Bengaluru Stampede

IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the 11 supporters, who lost their lives in a stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium during the team's victory celebrations here.

Lakhs of people turned out to catch a glimpse of Virat Kohli and Co. leading to complete chaos and eventually a stampede that caused the death of 11 people outside the stadium here on Wednesday.

"The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family," said an RCB statement on Thursday.

More than 50 people were also injured in the incident and the franchise said a fund is being set up to assist them.

"As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of Rs 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident," it added.

A magisterial inquiry is currently underway into the tragedy and its report is expected within the next fortnight.

RCB has drawn widespread criticism for going ahead with the victory celebrations just a day after winning the trophy, denying the administration and police authorities enough time to arrange adequate security needed for an event of such magnitude.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has already questioned the lapses in arrangement on Wednesday and also stressed on the need for proper co-ordination between the franchise, the police and the district administration for smooth conduct of such a programme.

He cited the seamless victory parade in Mumbai, which drew lakhs on to the streets, after India's T20 World Cup triumph last year as a case in point.

RCB's social media team had invited people to the celebrations with a social media post but later withdrew it after the Bengaluru Traffic Police stated that it would be difficult to allow a victory parade given the congestion on the route.

The parade was given the go ahead by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah but did not take place due to crowd chaos and rain.

Former India wicketkeeper and Karnataka legend Syed Kirmani was scathing in his criticism while talking to India Today, calling it a "deadly welcome".

RCB's biggest star Virat Kohli, who attended the festivities, said that he was left "gutted" by what transpired outside the stadium.

Bengaluru Stampede: Most People Discharged, Those Being Treated Are Out Of Danger

Most of those injured in the stampede occurred outside the Chinnasamy Stadium in Bengaluru were discharged from hospitals and a few still being treated are out of danger, hospital authorities said on Thursday.

At Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Bengaluru, of the 10 patients admitted, only two are still being treated said Medical Superindent on Thursday.

Eighteen patients in total were treated at the hospital after the stampede at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, said T Kemparaju, Medical Superintendent.

Speaking to PTI, Kemparaju said the patients at his hospital were mostly treated for minor scrapes, breathing difficulty and anxiety.

"We are still treating a patient who had fractured his leg after he fell down and another 14-year-old boy for a minor injury. Because the injury is near his right eye, he is kept under observation," added Kemparaju.

The boy's mother Farheen said he is most likely to be discharged by tomorrow.

She said her son is scared and confused about what really happened.

Boy's uncle Nawaz said they had no idea he was going for the victory parade.

"He just told us that he would be hanging out with his friends. It seems he was walking towards the Chinnaswamy stadium when he fell and lost conscious. We were then informed by the hospital that he was already admitted there," said Nawaz.

Bengaluru Stampede: Inadequate Police Cover

The police presence outside the stadium was not on par with match days.

The M Chinnaswamy Stadium expects a turnout of around 35,000 attendees on match days, which is its maximum capacity. However, the number far exceeded yesterday as the RCB's maiden victory had become an emotive issue in the state.

The lack of adequate police presence on the ground could be attributed to the need for additional security at the Vidhan Soudha, which hosted several VIPs, including the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister, yesterday. The players, too, went to the Vidhan Soudha for the official felicitation event. This likely divided the police resources.

Major Lapses Emerge During Bengaluru Stampede, Medical Centre Was Shut

Major lapses have emerged in organising the felicitation ceremony in Bengaluru that was marred by a deadly stampede last evening. While the focus remained on ensuring security for the VVIPs, including the players and their families, a serious lack of adequate police and medical staff at the stadium has now been flagged.
Cricket matches in India are an extensive affair. Multiple arrangements are made for the spectators at the stadium, including the deployment of adequate police and medical staff. They are usually present at every stand to provide support to anyone in a time of need. However, on June 4, ground staff and police officials at the Bengaluru stadium suggest there wasn't enough support staff.

NDTV also visited the medical command centre located near the stadium's main entry. It was not operational yesterday. It remained empty when injured fans reached there in search of water and first aid. However, no such facility was available there yesterday, according to several support staff.

Inside the medical room, different items, including a blood-stained handkerchief, were strewn on the floor, indicating that it was a site of struggle during the stampede.

"New SOP to ensure that such incidents do not happen": Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Bengaluru stampede

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara visited the stampede site at M Chinnaswamy Stadium and said that a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be formulated for large-scale meetings, ceremonies and victory ceremonies.

Speaking to reporters, he said, "The CM has already announced a magisterial inquiry into the incident. I came here to see the situation at the gates where the stampede occurred."

The Home Department will make a new SOP to ensure that such incidents do not happen. He said that from now on, when any big ceremony, meeting, or victory celebration is held, the programs should be held within the framework of the police department's directives.

"We will make a new SOP. We will give some instructions. Such incidents should never happen. Innocent deaths should not happen. It hurts to see all this. It was sad when I saw it in the morgue yesterday. People aged 20-25 years have lost their lives when they came to celebrate happily. No one could have predicted all this," he said, as reported by the news agency ANI.

"Approximately 8 Lakh People Showed Up": Karnataka Home Minister On Stampede

Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parmeshwara has claimed that approximately 8 lakh people descended upon Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium for Royal Challengers Bangalore's victory celebrations, which triggered a stampede and resulted in the deaths of 11 people and injuries to 47 on Tuesday evening.

"We estimated that 1 lakh people were outside Vidhan Soudha and 25,000 outside the stadium. We did not expect that 2.5 lakh people would come. 8.70 lakh Metro tickets were sold. Assuming most were cricket fans, 8 lakh people showed up. There has been no previous instance of so many people gathering for cricket. It would have been a record had it gone well. I've spoken to RCB and spoken to the KSCA - they've told us their opinion," Dr Parmeshwara said.

"Who Will Take Responsibility For Mismanagement?" BJP's BY Vijayendra Slams Karnataka Government

Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra on Thursday, strongly criticised the state government over the stampede near M Chinnaswamy Stadium that resulted in multiple casualties, calling the incident avoidable and holding the government accountable for mismanagement.

Mr Vijayendra questioned the state's decision to organise the event with haste, saying, "Who will take responsibility for the stampede? The tragedy could have been avoided if the state government had managed things properly. In the final match held in Ahmedabad, 1.5 lakh people gathered, and no such tragedy occurred there. Why did the state government organise the event with such haste? Why was permission given to hold the event yesterday without proper preparation? What was the necessity of celebrating in front of the Vidhana Soudha? Whether the Deputy Chief Minister or the Chief Minister organised it must be clarified."

"Didn't Have A Choice, Let The Crowd Go": Bengaluru Chinnaswamy Stadium Guard On Stampede

Security guards manning the gates of the Chinnaswamy Stadium during the IPL celebrations in Bengaluru were forced to give way to the crowds that had swelled outside, one of them said, as the chaos turned into a stampede and killed 11 people.

As chaos erupted at the site, some people fell on the ground and some got injured while trying to scale huge gates to gain entry into the stadium.

"In the end, we just let the crowd go. We did not have a choice. We were scared," one of the security guards deployed at the site told NDTV.

3 Teenagers, Youngest 13, All Under 40: The Victims Of Bengaluru Stampede

All the victims of the stampede tragedy at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy stadium are under 40, with a 13-year-old being the youngest. Among those dead are three teenagers and six people in the 20-30 years age group.

The victims have been identified AS Divyanshi (13), Doresha (32), Bhoomik (20), Sahana (25), Akshata (27), Manoj (33), Shravan (20), Devi (29), Shivalinga (17) and Chinmayi (19) and Prajwal (20).

Hasty preparations, lack of adequate planning and a massive rush of fans are among the factors that led to the tragedy. Questions have been raised about the state government's decision to organise a reception at the Vidhana Soudha where Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar felicitated the team. The two venues -- Vidhana Soudha and Chinnaswamy stadium -- created a massive challenge: due to VIP presence at the Assembly complex, a massive number of security personnel had to be deployed there. This led to a limited number of cops tackling lakhs of fans at the Chinnaswamy stadium. The stadium's capacity is around 35,000 and the crowd exceeded 3 lakh.

Last-Minute Planning Led To Bengaluru Stampede? June 3 Letter Contradicts

The joy over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) winning its first IPL trophy in 18 years was short-lived. A blame game has now taken the centrestage with stakeholders trying to wash their hands off the death of 11 cricket fans who were caught in the stampede during the celebrations outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium last evening.

The government had claimed that the felicitation event was planned last-minute, and the turnout was heavily underestimated. However, a letter dated June 3 contradicts this claim. The letter accessed by NDTV shows that the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had sought permission to host a felicitation event on the steps of Vidhan Soudha if the RCB wins the IPL.

The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) had forwarded the request to the police department. The police were not in favour of allowing the event at Vidhana Soudha, sources say.

Reports suggest the RCB management was urged not to hold any celebration on Wednesday and wait till Sunday. However, the franchise argued that by Sunday, the overseas players would leave and be unable to attend the felicitation ceremony.

'3-4 People Died In Front Of Me': Bengaluru Stampede Witness Recalls Horror

A mound of shoes and sandals lying here and there and some pieces of what appeared to be sports apparel and merchandise were the telltale signs of the stampede that broke out in the immediate vicinity of the Chinnaswamy stadium here, leading to the deaths of 11 persons.
Many youths managed to climb branches of huge trees and frenzied young men clung to poles and even scaled huge walls to gain entry into the stadium to catch a glimpse of their stars, all at the same time.

Police men and women though did their best to regulate crowd in and around the stadium area, they were heavily outnumbered as the maiden win became a youth cultural extravaganza. Appeals from the police informing people that "stadium is full...stadium is full," and urging them to disperse fell on deaf ears.An eyewitness said, 600-700 people, especially women, at a time broke open the gate and tried to enter, leading to stampede.

Another person said at least 30-40 people fell at a time due to crowding, but more people were coming in from behind. Three-four people died on the spot in front of my eyes.
