The NTA uses a normalisation process to ensure fairness in the evaluation process
Since the exam is conducted in multiple shifts with varying difficulty levels, here's how the JEE Main session 2 merit list is determined
The raw marks obtained by candidates are converted into percentile scores, which indicate the relative performance of candidates across different shifts

The best NTA score out of the two is considered for the final JEE Main 2025 ranking for candidates who appeared in both Session 1 and 2
In case of similar percentile scores, the NTA considers factors such as scores in Mathematics, followed by Physics, Chemistry
The candidate's age is also considered with preference given to the older candidate
